It is four in the morning as I write this, and I have already been awake for an hour.
I have been awake for an hour because Econet Wireless sent me a text at three in the morning, telling me my account has been credited with 10 loyalty points for received calls.
Now, I don’t have a problem with Econet’s efforts at promotions and benefits and value addition or whatever they want to call it.
I think it is an impressive effort to reward their customers and give something back, considering the varied ways in which they fleece us everyday (I’m looking at you, broadband and SMS tarrifs).
But to send out these promotional SMS messages at all hours of the day and night is not only plain annoying, but is such an egregious invasion of my privacy as to make me consider cancelling my account.
This is not the first message I have been sent by Econet, in fact there was a time I thought someone had it in for me and made sure I got these unsolicited solicitations at one in the morning at least twice a week.
Is it kuti the only time they can send out these (assumingly) mass blasts is in the wee hours? Am I the only one getting these?
Like I said, this is now beyond annoying as not only am I going to have a terrible work day and be tired by lunch-time, I also have lots of work to do (being a new year) and probably won’t be able to sleep until the witching hour.
My question is simple; how difficult is it to send these SMS messages during working hours?
I am one angry customer.
